Get to know: Andrew Carey
We catch up with Tenmat’s Technical Sales Executive Andrew Carey to learn what a day in his role looks like, as well as what he enjoys outside work.
Fire Protection
Passive fire protection is a growing market, and there are a lot of competitors out there. But knowing the strength of our products and what we offer, it’s hugely rewarding seeing our solutions being used on major projects around the world.
Andrew Carey
Technical Sales Executive
Could you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
I have had several roles in sales but seemed to have thrived and found my passion in the construction sector, enjoying just over 13 years in sales and technical sales.
What does your job involve?
It’s a real variety, from sales and technical sales – offering passive fire protection solutions to contractors and architects – to managing internal sales and operational projects and seeing orders through from start to finish.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the challenge of seeing an enquiry right through to completion, from its planning stage with designers and architects to becoming an actualised order. Overseeing this process and ensuring all stages are working efficiently and communicating this to the customer at every step of the process is very rewarding.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day typically starts with reviewing reports and liaising with production and planning teams on all current orders to ensure the order process runs smoothly. I take and answer enquiries via email, Microsoft Teams, and telephone, liaising with the external sales team, logistics, production and the sales director on sales matters, whilst having a little fun on the way.
What makes Tenmat a good company to work for?
Although it’s a very busy sales environment, the vibe is surprisingly calm and collected. We also have a diverse staff, meaning you can often hear colleagues speaking in variety of languages and travelling to different parts of the world to share our services, which makes our work all the more interesting.
And finally, what do you like to get up to away from work?
The majority of my time revolves around my two young children along with trying to look after myself in the gym. I enjoy swimming, football (although mostly only watching these days…) and snowboarding, although it’s been some time since I have ventured onto an non-artificial slope. I also try to squeeze in the odd night socialising with friends and family.
