human resources
Working in HR, we play a key role in the full employee life cycle – from attraction and onboarding to development, retention, and off-boarding (and all the rest in-between). It’s great to be involved in developing our working practices and culture which ultimately helps to shape the company’s success, employee satisfaction, and overall performance.

Could you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
I have been working in HR for 24 years. My first experience of HR was at the RAC as HR & Training Administrator. I really enjoyed working within the HR team and seeing the positive impact of our work. It was then that I decided I wanted to start a career in HR. I started working at Tenmat in 2005 and I have now been working for the Company for 19 years. During that time, I have completed my CIPD Level 7 Diploma and gained a lot of experience in all areas of HR.
What does your job involve?
My role here is extremely varied. I am involved in all aspects of HR including Employee Relations, Reward, Analytics, Training and Development, Payroll, and HR Information Systems. I also look after the onsite restaurant – The Food Factory. I am responsible for HR for a number of national and international sites.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love that no two days are ever the same and the varied nature of my role. I am very lucky that I have an amazing HR and Payroll team who make significant contributions to the department and our objectives. I enjoy being able to work alongside both the office staff and the operational teams on the shop floor.
What does a typical day look like for you?
There is no typical day for me as every day is different! However, my day can involve tasks such as; creating/updating Company policies/procedures, assisting managers with employee relations activities, updating and monitoring KPI’s, project work, employee welfare meetings, producing analytical reports, meeting with the Unions, creating development plans, planning fun events etc.
What makes Tenmat a good company to work for?
At Tenmat we have a large number of long serving employees and we always celebrate employee service milestones. We support people in their professional development and give people progression opportunities. We hold fun events for our employees and also try to do good things for our local community. In the last few months we have held an ice cream van day, staff BBQ with fun games, Greek food day and we are currently collecting for our local food back. We have many more fun things planned for the rest of 2024.
And finally, what do you like to get up to away from work?
I enjoy getting out on the kayak when we can. I also love spending time with my 2 staffies and taking them on little mini breaks exploring the UK. I also enjoy going out to social events with friends and family.
